Yoda will Make You Win at Life with These 3 Pieces of Advice:

1. “Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.”

You’re terrified to take action. You’re afraid to apply for that job, you’re afraid to ask for that interview, you’re afraid to jump out of your comfort zone.

Let go.

The truth of the matter is that you don’t have anything to lose. Whenever you’re afraid to do something, just ask yourself, “What’s the worst that could happen?” Almost always, asking this question will make you realize that you need to just do it. (there is no try)

2. “You will know (the good from the bad) when you are calm, at peace. Passive.”

Angry people never make good decisions. Most people already have a hard enough time deciding what the right course of action is. How harder must it be to make good decisions in a moment of anger.

I’ve experienced betrayal. Did I want to lash out?

Yes.

Did I?

No.

I will admit, it took some time, but after hurt feelings faded, and anger subsided, I realized that, at this point, the only person I’d been hurting was myself.

You must build the skill of being able to emotionally remove yourself from a situation if you want to make sound decisions.

 Let go.

3. “Do or do not. There is no try.”

It’s a cliche I know, but seriously…

Stop trying so hard and JUST DO IT!

Stop planning to do it. Stop thinking about doing it. Stop contemplating doing it. Stop wishing you were doing it. Stop wanting to do it.

Do it.

Whatever your “it” is.

You may fail-scratch that-you WILL fail, but you’ll learn from your failure.

Remember, there can be no success without failure. And in the end you’ll find true happiness and success!

  1. Cool post Riley. And the last SWR got all heavy! I will say though, it’s disappointing when you realize that both Obiwan and Yoda had lots of bad advice in the OT. I mean Yoda basically told Luke to let Han and Leia die on Bespin. So much for do or do not, in that case it was just “do not!”

    1. lol, they sure did. Although Yoda did have some nuggets of wisdom.

  2. Great article. I think we all /know/ that SW has life lessons, but you’ve laid out some of the best ones very clearly. Where’d you get that top picture of the Scrabble tiles? That’s really cool.

  3. I think this is the first time I write a comment in a blog but your article does deserve it. Thank you Riley, nicely done and clear as water. Greetings from Mexico 🙂
