Rumor: Ewan McGregor To Return as “Force Ghost” Obi Wan in Episode VII

Holy Kenobi!

This would be amazing, the folks over at Latino Review say they have three sources close to the project confirming it.

Also returning from the netherworld of the Force is Obi-Wan Kenobi.

After all, Obi-Wan Kenobi appeared throughout the original trilogy, despite his death in ‘A New Hope’. I have confirmed this with three close sources that are on the project and they all confirmed to me that Ewan McGregor would be back as a Force Ghost in the upcoming sequel trilogy. McGregor was always down to return.

I for one would be completely on board with this, what remains to be seen is whether or not Hayden Christensen will return in the same fashion.

I will say this though, I’m glad to see that they’re not completely balking at using prequel era actors. Some might have thought that Disney was allergic to anything recognizable from the prequel era, but evidently not.

Stay tuned!

  1. I’m starting to get VERY skeptical of all these characters returning. Luke, Leia, Han, Palp and now Kenobi? Will there be any time for new characters? Even if these are just cameos, it starts to lose impact when you have one cameo after another. I hope this isn’t just fan service.

Having said all that, I LOVE Obi-Wan and IMO Ewan was the best part of the prequels. So I’d definitely be happy to see Kenobi in the sequel trilogy. It’s just hard for me to imagine. Are they going to age Ewan to look like Alec? Please don’t go back and replace Alec’s force ghost with Ewan in the OT like they did with Hayden Christenson and Sebastian Shaw.

The best part for me is the talk of a stand alone film. It’s a no brainer to have a film that bridges the gap between the PT and the OT focusing on Kenobi on Tatooine. I highly doubt Obi-Wan just sat around while Vader was out there killing everyone. He had to have tried to finish the job he failed to do in ROTS. Plus, now we know Maul is still out there. It would be sweet if the “plans” that Sidious had for Maul in The Clone Wars carried on in a film.
