Women in Star Wars: January 2015

The following is a guest post from Tricia Barr, long time friend of the Star Wars Report who kindly agreed to share some of her findings about females in Star Wars recently, both in real life, and our fictional heroines. Thanks Tricia for being willing to share!

Each month at FANgirl Blog, I highlight fangirls and their heroines, fictional and real life, spotted across the internet. When Bethany Blanton said she wanted to shine a spotlight on female fans at Star Wars Report, I found some Star Wars heroines and fangirls to share.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy ranked #13 in the Power 100 of The Hollywood Reporter’s 2014 Women in Entertainment Power list. Let’s see where she is next year, after The Force Awakens.

Amy Ratcliffe shares her crafting skills on her blog Geek With Curves. This time it is pink and purple AT-ATs.

At the Wookiee Gunner, Johnamarie Macias spotlights fanartists. These posts are always a highlight of my day.

Earlier this month Lucasfilm Senior Editor Jen Heddle asked women who wanted to write Star Wars to let her know. The response was amazing!

Independent Film’s Live Read of The Empire Strikes Back featured an incredible cast, including Ellen Page in the role of Han Solo. Check out a recap over at /Film.

The December episode of Fangirls Going Rogue featured a fantastic discussion on Hera and Sabine with guests Sarah Woloski from Skywalker Through Neverland podcast and Geek Girl Diva from EW Star Wars Rebels community. In an interview, Anne Neumann from Rancho Obi-Wan shared how her geeky career led to working with Star Wars.
