Star Wars: Queen’s Hope – Review

Begun, the Clone War has.

The Clone War rages across the galaxy after the Battle of Geonosis. In the wake of that battle, Padmé and Anakin make their way back to Naboo to plan their impending, clandestine nuptials. This is where Queen’s Hope begins, setting the stage for the biggest change in Padmé’s life since she stepped down as queen.

Queen’s Hope is the final book in E.K. Johnson’s trilogy about Padmé and her handmaidens. The book starts off with a lot of promise and the marriage of Anakin and his fiancee, but not before a side mission potentially delays the ceremony. Yet, the promise of the story is quickly lost as Padmé gets relegated to a third of the book and nothing of consequence happens. It is frustrating that a book that is suppose to be about Padmé doesn’t do anything substantial to further her character. There is a lot of potential here too, since exploring the early part of her and Anakin’s marriage is fertile ground for a story. Disappointingly the wedding is over too quickly and their relationship takes a back seat to what is happening with Padmé’s previous and current handmaidens.

If you are looking for good Padmé content, your best bet is rewatching episodes of The Clone Wars because Queen’s Hope will leave you devoid of any, it is rated 2 out of 5 stars.
