Reviews this episode: Darth Maul – Death Sentence (comic volume) Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void (novel)
What better way to start the Summer than with some Star Wars Expanded Universe talk? Unfortunately our regular host Teresa was unable to join Aaron this episode, but we were happy to welcome Mark Hurliman (Star Wars Report and Star Wars Beyond the Films podcasts) as a guest host. Also joining us to share her expert opinions was Tricia Barr (writer for Star Wars Insider). Two amazing and very knowledgeable guests in one episode!
Aaron and the two guests first shared what Star Wars related things they have been up to lately. Mark talked about his excitement for reading Kenobi and Crucible and how he hates getting behind on Expanded Universe materials. Tricia shared how she has recently had an article featured on the cover of Star Wars Insider #142, a piece on Padme Amidala. Aaron talked about his recent trip to San Francisco and how he had the amazing privilege of visiting the Lucasfilm and ILM offices.
At the top of the episode we discussed the announcement of the new animated series, Star Wars Rebels. We are not a Star Wars animation podcast but a new animated series is bound to effect the Expanded Universe in some way and we discussed some of the possibilities.
For our first review we covered the comic volume Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison. We all pretty much agreed that this was one of our favorite comics to come out recently. Dark and gritty with a bunch of surprises… just how I like my comics.
Before we release our regular May episode we are happy to bring you a special interview episode. We were thrilled to be able to interview prolific Star Wars writer John Jackson Miller! He is the writer of various Star Wars books and comics including Knights of the Old Republic, Lost Tribe of the Sith, Knight Errant, and the upcoming novel Kenobi.
At the top of the interview we discussed his personal Star Wars fandom and how it lead to a career in comics. He also shared his thoughts on the upcoming Rebels animated series and why he is excited for it. Other subjects that came up in the conversation were new and old Star Trek and Doctor Who.
Sadly Teresa had to sit this episode out but Aaron was happy to be joined by guest Eric Geller, writer at TheForce.net and host of the popular Forcecast podcast.
The discussion topic this month was the newly announced The Star Wars comics series. Aaron and Eric talk about their thoughts on the Dark Horse comic series which will adapt George Lucas’ early draft for Star Wars. Han Solo was a lizard!?
