In this episode of Star Wars Bookworms we talk mostly comics and answer some listener emails. Bria from Tosche Station joins us and brings some impressive comic book knowledge to the discussion. She’s really cool.

  • Splinter of the Mind’s Eye is our book club book for Jan/Feb. Join us over at Goodreads and get in on the conversation.
  • Marvel Star Wars #1 has come out and we give our thoughts on the first issue.
  • We had emails from Lenie, Ben, and David asking about double-bladed lightsabers, continuing stories for The Clone Wars characters, and what themes from Legends we want to be left behind. Teresa was not happy to learn about the Endor Holocaust.
  • Aaron posed a question about Legends characters being used in the new canon and how much of their backstory should stay intact.
  • We review the final Legacy comics, Legacy Volume 4 – Empire of One. Bria is a big fan.
  • We also review the final Brian Wood Star Wars comics, Star Wars Volume 4: A Shattered Hope.

We took a little bit of a break but we are back just in time for Christmas! And so much happened during our time off, so we had plenty to talk about.

  • StarWars.com posted a holiday gift guide for readers. Teresa walked us through the list and we basically want it all.
  • Since our last episode the title The Force Awakens was announced, we got a teaser trailer, and character names were revealed. We gave our thoughts on it all.
  • Marvel Star Wars #1 is coming soon and we have lots of covers to choose from. We talked about the numerous variants, how we feel about them, and picked a few we like.
  • We review Darth Maul – Son of Dathomir, the canon comic series based on unused scripts from The Clone Wars.
  • We briefly discuss Star Wars Volume 3: Rebel Girl. We didn’t have much positive to say so we kept this review short.

If you could get any guest to help review the novel A New Dawn, who would it be? Vanessa Marshall, right?

We did that.

  • A new Kanan comic is coming from Marvel! And will we ever get Teresa’s wanted Wicket/Kitwarr team-up comic?

  • We save the best for last. A full review of the novel A New Dawn with Star Wars Rebels¬†actor, Vanessa Marshall!

  • They welcome guest Megan from Blog Full of Words and Den of Geek who sticks around with them for most of the episode.
  • Emails! They read a few listener emails and get into a discussion about the portrayal of women in Star Wars. Well Teresa and Megan discuss. Aaron pretty much sidesteps. They also answer the question of which upcoming novel each are most excited for.
  • New York Comic Con is just a few days away and Aaron, Teresa, and Megan will all be there. They talk about the convention, Star Wars panels, and what other things they are most excited for.
  • Aaron and Megan review the comic volume Legacy: Wanted Ania Solo. Teresa attempts to derail them and is somewhat successful.
  • Megan says goodbye and Teresa and Aaron get to talk some Rebels. They get into a detailed discussion and review of the junior novel Ezra’s Gamble.

More Dragon Con coverage from Star Wars Bookworms!

Last episode Aaron and Teresa gave a recap of their experiences at Dragon Con 2014 and shared the audio from the first panel they moderated featuring authors Timothy Zahn and Christie Golden. This episode our hosts talk about their time preparing for and moderating the second Star Wars author panel about canon and Legends.

This panel featured Zahn and Golden again as well as notable Star Wars authors Kevin Anderson, Rebecca Moesta, Michael Stackpole, and Dave Wolverton. The authors talked about what the Legends label means to them, weaving continuities together, the future of Star Wars, and so much more!

And don’t forget. This month we are reading John Jackson Miller’s new Rebels novel, A New Dawn, over at our Goodreads book club. If you haven’t joined us yet, now is the perfect time. A New Dawn is the first novel in the new canon and is a great jumping on point into Star Wars literature. Also, John Jackson Miller himself has joined the book club and is contributing to the conversation over at Goodreads.
