This year saw me, Teresa, Riley, and Aaron all together at Dragon Con! While the convention is over, we are still releasing coverage of it including audio, photos, event coverage, and panel recaps like this one. Dragon Con has so much wonderful content from Marvel panels to parties, from Doctor Who to My Little Pony, and of course the Star Wars track, which had panels, parties, a costume contest, a trivia contest, and more. This Saturday panel was moderated by Teresa Delgado and Aaron Goins, who also have some audio of the panel on their podcast Star Wars Bookworms. The guests were Christie Golden and Timothy Zahn, both well know authors. The discussion revolved around tropes, with the authors talking about overdone story-lines in fiction, as well as classic themes that aid in the effort of telling a story well.
Our second day at Dragon Con began with us sleeping in a bit after a late night. The first thing Riley and Bethany did was to go see the famous Dragon Con parade! With hundreds of cosplayers from a wide variety of genres, franchises, and a mix of both, the parade was definitely a must see for anyone interested in seeing costumes or cosplaying. There was a big Star Wars presence in the parade from the 501st Legion, the Rebel Legion, and the Mandalorian Mercs. There were also a number of Battlestar Galactica costumes, Final Fantasy, Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings, Anime, and various other video game, TV show, and movie characters.
Dragon Con has always been one of my favorite Conventions to attend as a Star Wars fan, and I’m happy to announce that the SWR staff will be there in Force (pun intended). Dragon Con is the biggest geek convention in the Southeast, featuring many fandoms, forms of entertainment, dealers’ halls, panels, media personalities, parties, and more! The Star Wars fan track is run by Brandy Roatsey and a team of other Star Wars fans, featuring this year Star Wars authors, actor Sam Witwer, and other media guests and fans.
Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook, and keep on eye on our site for coverage! It’s going to be an absolute blast! The following is what you can expect to see from the Star Wars Report staff at Dragon Con as well as where you can find us this year.
- Live tweeting of panels
- Podcast episodes covering the convention
- Written panel recaps
- Video of the convention

Expect to find all four of us at many other panels and events throughout the weekend! Be sure to drop by and say “hi,” and have fun at Dragon Con! Wear your finest at the Suits, Sinatra, and Star Wars mixer, party like it’s your last party on Alderaan, and remember to wear your Hawaiian/Aloha, or brightly colored shirts, on Sunday to remember A.C. Crispin and Aaron Allston.
Convention starts tomorrow folks!

On this episode of the Star Wars Report your hosts Mark, Riley and Bethany returned, along with special guests Teresa of Fangirl Next Door and Jason of The Wampa’s Lair. On this episode, which was recorded live, we discussed the breaking news (or should we say rumors) that J.J. Abrams will indeed be directing Star Wars Episode VII. What was so much fun about this was discussing it with an awesome live audience literally as the news was continuing to update!
We also talked about the new Darth Maul book that was announced today, Maul: Lockdown, by Joe Schreiber of Death Troopers fame.
One topic covered in this episode was the Twitter Star Wars Fansite Seminar, an ongoing Twitter discussion with many different fansites and their representatives on how to best manage a Star Wars fansite. Yours truly also had great fun participating in this!
Though it was hectic, it was great fun to record live, while following the news and interacting with everyone!
May the Force be ever with you!
