Star Wars: The Next Generation “Teasing Your Kids”

Star Wars: The Next Generation
Teasing Your Kids

My father loved movies and science fiction.  He was a Star Trek fan in the sixties, though he sometimes missed seeing it on television because his in-laws tended to visit on nights when the program aired.  (This may have been a contributing factor to our family being one of the first I knew to have a VCR in our home; he didn’t want interruptions to cause him to miss seeing his favorite shows.)  Having seen Star Wars in 1977 while he was out-of-town on a business trip, he came back home and immediately took my older brother to go see this “strange movie in space that had a gorilla for a copilot.”  Later, he would take his whole family to see the iconic space opera at the drive-in (formerly recounted in this post). roundup02New Gentle Giant Ltd. Maquettes

Designs of Ezra Bridger/Chopper and Zeb Orrelios maquettes appeared earlier this year, and now, Gentle Giant Ltd. brings fans the Star Wars Rebels Stormtrooper, which is a design based on Ralph McQuarrie’s initial Stormtrooper concept art. Sadly, no sign of Hera Syndulla or Sabine Wren, who, unlike the Stormtrooper, are main characters of the series.

Other new/pending statues include Han Solo Hero of Yavin Bust and Ugnaught Jumbo Kenner Figure.

roundup03Packaging Revealed For Hasbro’s Star Wars Rebels Imperial Troop Transport

The original Kenner’s Imperial Troop Transport in 1979 was the source of inspiration for the vehicle we see in the series. As seen on the left, we have the packaging for Hasbro’s new Imperial Troop Transport, revealed via Star Wars Figuren.

roundup05Ezra Bridger Figure Variation

Collectors are always looking for variants, and the first one for Star Wars Rebels has been spotted. Several collector sites, including From 4-LOM to Zuckuss, have reported that there is a variant of the Ezra Bridger figure included in the Toys ‘R’ Us Star Wars Rebels Mission Series The Ghost Pack. Happy hunting!

Hasbro’s Star Wars Figures Timeline

MTV.com recently published a timeline of Hasbro’s Star Wars figures. The simple timeline educates new fans on the placement of the new animated series, Star Wars Rebels, in relation to the movies. Despite the useful information it provides, it neglects Star Wars: The Clone Wars and specific figures lines, such as The Black Series and more.

Star Wars Exclusive Toys and Saga Legends/Mission Series Previews

The Star Wars Rebels animated series recently aired its fourth episode on Disney XD, “Breaking Ranks,” and some fans pointed out via Twitter that certain characters should be produced as action figures in the near future, including Zare Leonis and Chopper’s Imperial disguise. But, where are the Rebels action figures?

On the shelves you’ll find the Jakks 20″ and 31″ figures, a few plush toys, and the Star Wars Rebels Command Battle figures, but not much else. I recently picked up Hasbro’s Star Wars Rebels Jedi Reveal Pack with Ezra, Kanan, and Obi-Wan Kenobi from Toys ‘R’ Us, but other figures haven’t appeared yet at my local store. There have been exceptions. For example, Yakface recently reported that Hasbro’s Star Wars Rebels/Saga Legends and Mission Series figures arrived from Entertainment Earth and other reported seeing some on the shelves in California. Visit Yakface’s toyguide preview for carded images. (Yakface also has a preview images for Wave 5 figures, which includes Sabine Wren’s figure.)

As for when more figures will become available, Jedi Temple Archives wrote January 30, 2015? The rumor states that some cases of figures went out early, but Hasbro appears to be pushing the general release of Rebels figures to early 2015.

Despite the rumor, there are exclusives that may catch your attention in the meantime.

Here’s hoping we see more figures and other merchandise on the shelves before Christmas.  Stay tuned for more toy updates as they become available.
