I’m so excited to announce that latest project from the Star Wars Report family; The “Christmas in the Stars.” is an collaboration between us at SWR and so many good friends from around the Star Wars fan-site community. Over the next few days there will be a short, daily guest blog post about a favorite Star Wars memory from a friend of us here at the Star Wars Report. We begin with “A Grandmother’s Gift” a memory from my good friend Mark Newbold of Jedi News

A Grandmother’s Gift
As a Star Wars fan since 1978 I’ve got 35 past Christmas’ to choose from, and believe it or not I’ve had something Star Wars every one of those years. But the year that stands out as my favorite would be Christmas 1980. I was 9 and I knew (because I had sneakily found out where my folks hid the presents) that I’d be getting a Snow speeder and a Tauntaun. I thought I’d had my lot once I’d opened the Snowspeeder, but when my Dad pulled out another HUGE box and handed it to me I was a bit baffled, and then thrilled to bits when the wrapping came away and a Star Destroyer playset sat there. That was just awesome, and over the years it got a lot of use (still does!) But probably the most important gift was from my Gran – the UK Empire Strikes Back annual from Marvel. I still have it in my collection and it’s very important to me as it was the last present my Gran gave me as she passed away the following November. That book got read cover to cover numerous times, me and my school mates even did an audio recording of it one summer in the early 80’s.
Star Wars and Christmas have always gone hand in glove together, so it feels just right that Episode VII should arrive the week before Christmas – what better present could any of us wish for!
