Her Universe Surprise

I’ve always been a Star Wars fan my whole life. However, I haven’t always been the crazed fangirl that I am today. Back in 2010 when Celebration V visited close to my home town in Orlando, I decided to skip out on the experience while my mom and brother went because I just wasn’t “that” into Star Wars. Earlier in the year, I had heard about Ashley Eckstein’s upcoming clothing company called “Her Universe” at Star Wars Weekends and was interested in seeing what merchandise she would have. During CV, my mom called me and told me that Ashley’s clothing line was at the convention center and she had tons of nice t-shirts and accessories for fangirls. While I secretly wanted a few things because I thought it was awesome, I played it off like I wasn’t interested and went on with my day. When my mom got home from the convention, she showed me the Star Wars burnout shirt that she got for herself and I thought it was just the coolest thing.

Deep down inside I really wanted a shirt too, but I didn’t say anything. Four months later on Christmas day, I was opening presents from my parents and found a Star Wars hoodie in one of the boxes. Then a t-shirt, charm bracelet, and hat in another box. My mom had gotten me tons of stuff from the Her Universe booth and saved it for Christmas. I think that was the real turning point in my fandom. Ever since that moment, I’ve realized that it’s okay to be a fangirl and express my love for Star Wars without shame. I’ve been able to meet so many people and have amazing opportunities that I would never have gotten without Star Wars being in my life. I had no idea how that Christmas would change the rest of my life!
