A Star Wars Gaming History – The Force is Strong With These

Movie-branded video games are nothing new – Especially when it comes to science fiction and fantasy movies. The Avalon II slots game is one recent example. And this Battlestar Galactica online slot review as another example. However, one of the biggest blockbuster hits when it comes to fusing games and movies has to be Star Wars. It has a passionate following, plus iconic characters, sounds and tunes that make it ideal for producing successful games.

Where it all began…

In fact, the very first Star Wars video games came out not long after the original film itself – Episode IV: A New Hope. This was the movie which first introduced us to the likes of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Darth Vader. If you had an Atari, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum or the like, the chances are that you may well have enjoyed hours of fun playing the straightforward-named “Star Wars”. Around the same time, Atari in particular produced similar games based around the other two titles in the original Star Wars trilogy, “Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”. Plenty of fun to be had with a joystick!

The next milestone in gameplay, was personal consoles. And so when the Gameboy, Game Gear and SNES came out in the early 1990s, Star Wars migrated successfully to hand-held play.

New formulas take charge

During the 1990s and early 2000s though, there was little sign of an additional movie in the Star Wars series. But yet, the development of associated games continued unabated. Plenty of simple first person shooter games, or action simulations were developed on Windows, Dos and Playstation.

In 1999, “Star Wars Episode I: Racer” became the first Star Wars-themed racing game. And during the early 2000s, “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” was released as the first Star Wars multiplayer role-playing game. And in the several following years, another new trend developed – Star Wars Lego themed adventure games, bringing all the fun of of Star Wars gaming to life in the form of lego characters!

The online revolution

Of course, the advent and continuing growth of online gaming has paved the way for yet greater development of Star Wars gaming. And as time goes on, the gameplay becomes smoother and the effects become more impressive. There are a significant number of online Star Wars games, which are free to download and lots of fun to play without risking losing any cash. They include “Droid Masters,” “Jedi vs Jedi,” “Lightsaber Battles 3D” and a whole lot more. The graphics are sharp and you can be sure to enjoy plenty of fun gaming hours.

However, the very pinnacle of Star Wars gameplay has come in the form of slots games. You can find a slots game for almost every interest – check out this list for some of the very best. Visit any casino of reasonable size and you will likely see the excellent IGT creation – “Star Wars Trilogy”. As a trilogy-themed game, it is appropriately a three-reel slot and there is a mega-prize at stake, usually totalling a pot of $1 million or more. As for the game itself, all the favourite characters are there – Yoda, Han Solo, Chewbacca and more. And the bonus rounds are a pleasure for any Star Wars fan, allowing you to develop your ‘Jedi skills’. They relive some of the most famous scenes from Star Wars. So in the Battle of Yavin bonus round, you must take control of Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing fighter as he attempts to destroy the Death Star. All in all, it’s a wonderful production. You can only imagine what will come next…
